9 AWESOME WAYS TO MOISTURIZE YOUR TIGHTENED SKIN
Your facial skin is the best indicator of health and age than anything other area of your body, so you want to keep it looking as young and healthy as possible. If you have already tightened your face (by natural means or otherwise) you will want to keep that tightness by keeping your facial skin hydrated or those wrinkles, sags, and fine lines will be showing up faster than you can say “Thermage!” Here are 9 awesome was to moisturize your tightened skin.
1. Drink lots of water
We cannot emphasize this too much. Your body needs water, and if you don’t drink enough water on a daily basis, the first thing that will suffer is your skin.
This is because the body will draw the available water from the surface to protect the internal organs as well as avoid losing more water through evaporation. So, shrunken heads, anyone?

Conventional wisdom says you need to drink 64 ounces of water (8 8-oz glasses), but you don’t really need to drink that much. You can get 20% of that from the food you eat. That is, if you eat right. This brings us to the next way to keep your tightened skin moisturized.
2. Eat antioxidant- and water-rich food
Some foods are just good for you. They have high water content and/or antioxidants (omega-3 etc.). You probably know that antioxidants protect you inside and out from free radicals that can wither you like paper flashed with a flame thrower. This includes fish, most fruits and vegetables but let us highlight the best of them.
HERE ARE SOME GREAT ANTIOXIDANTS FOODS AVAILABLE IN YOUR LOCAL GROCERY
- Baby Carrots
- Green Peppers
- Iceberg Lettuce
- Rainbow Trout
- Star Fruit
3. Avoid smoking and alcohol
Not to be a killjoy but the toxic chemicals in the cigarette smoke wafting back to your face is full of those free radicals we are trying to avoid, and it will definitely put paid to your efforts at keeping your skin young and tight.
Alcohol is also not a good idea outside the daily glass of red wine (great source of antioxidants) because ethanol dehydrates your body. That’s why you have a hangover after you drink too much; your brain shrank. Well, not really, but it is definitely thirsty. And what did we say when the body lacks water? Yup, like a prune.
Now that we’ve gotten the lifestyle factors out of the way, let’s get to the fun part: your beauty regimen!
The first step to keeping your skin hydrated from the outside is to get at the newer, fresher skin. Dead skin cells are harder to saturate, which is why you need to regularly exfoliate. It’s just a fancy term for removing dead skin cells.
You can do this by buying a commercial exfoliating cream, or you can make your own and save a few bucks. We recommend using leftover cooked oatmeal or yogurt as a gentle scrub, or you can try baking soda with enough honey to make a smooth paste.
Simply rub gently over your skin and leave for a few minutes before rinsing off. You face will feel fresh and clean. Exfoliate at least once a week.

5. Use a mild facial cleanser
You may have oily skin, but washing your face with something drying will only simulate your oil glands to produce more oil! So oily or dry skin, avoid using regular soap on your face.
Instead, get a mild facial cleaner to remove surface dirt without stripping it of its natural oils. You can also make your own face wash using raw honey. Simply apply to your face and leave on for a few minutes before washing off with warm (not hot) water.
And while we’re at it, avoid long, steamy showers as well. The heat will dry up your skin. Go for short, cool showers instead.
6. Use a facial mask
In addition to exfoliating and daily cleansing, you can do a weekly hydrating facial mask to get really deep into those pores and take out the nasties lurking in them. This will keep your skin smooth and prevent acne breakouts.
Again, there are excellent commercial facial masks available, but you can again use honey mixed with a few drops each of coconut or olive oil and lemon juice and apply liberally over your face and neck. Keep it on for 20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
Toning is essentially closing up your pores by using an astringent. Some commercially available toners are a little too strong for newly-tightened skin, so be careful when you choose one. You can also make sure it is not too strong by using apple cider vinegar instead.
Dilute 1 part vinegar with 2 parts distilled water and apply to the face with a cotton ball. Allow it to dry before putting on your moisturizer.
Don’t worry, the smell will go away! And speaking of moisturizers…
8. Use moisturizing sun block
Never forget to apply a moisturizer first thing in the morning and last thing at night after cleaning and toning your facial skin. A moisturizer helps hydrate dry skin as well as form a moisture barrier to keep water in your skin instead of escaping into the air. During the day if you go out into the sun, make sure your moisturizer has sun block with a minimum SPF rating of 15.
You can easily get a good face moisturizer, although which one will depend on your skin type. A water based moisturizer would be ideal for sensitive skin, while a moisturizer for acne prone skin may include retinoids. The best face moisturiser for dry skin may be a natural face moisturizer made of ½ cup extra-virgin coconut oil, 1 teaspoon liquid vitamin E, and 5-7 drops lavender essential oil. It takes a little time for the skin to absorb but it works fantastically as a natural moisturizer for night use.
9. Use a serum
If your skin still feels too dry even after doing all the above, you could benefit from using a serum for a few weeks. It can jump start your skin’s natural hydrating properties. Like anything else we advocate, we advise doing your research before using a commercial brand hydrating serum.
